Visual Acuity Test

This is the first step of a comprehensive eye exam, and it involves determining how clearly you can see. Our doctor will ask you to look at a chart with letters, numbers, or symbols of various sizes and identify them. This is done to measure your vision and to determine if glasses or contact lenses are needed.

Refraction

During this step, the eye doctor will use a machine called a phoropter to measure how well your eyes focus. The phoropter contains lenses of different strengths, and the doctor will ask you to look through them one at a time and indicate which one is clearer. This helps to determine the best prescription for your eyes.

Eye Health Evaluation

During this part of the exam, your optometrist will use a slit lamp to examine the health of your eyes. This is done to look for any signs of infection or disease, such as glaucoma or cataracts. The doctor may also use drops to dilate your pupils and get a better look at the inside of your eyes.

Visual Field Test

This is the last step of the eye exam. During this test, the doctor will ask you to stare at a central point and then indicate when you can see objects that appear in your peripheral vision. This helps to check for any blind spots or vision defects.
